A new traffic signal at Sparks Boulevard and Ion Drive is set to go live Monday, Nov. 9, according to the Regional Transportation Commission's weekly traffic report.
Drivers should expect intermittent lane closures while crews finish striping and signal configuration. The RTC warned the signal may be in re-flash or dark during certain testing periods and urged caution. RTC project manager LaShonn Ford is overseeing the signal project.
The signal activation comes amid the larger Sparks Boulevard Capacity Improvement Project – North Phase, which stretches from the Sparks Boulevard/I-80 westbound ramp intersection to the Sparks Boulevard/Shadow Lane intersection. That project, managed by RTC project manager Garrett Rodgers, is expected to continue through June 2027.
Drivers on the broader corridor are already navigating construction. The RTC report says 24/7 single-lane closures are anticipated on both northbound and southbound Sparks Boulevard between Lincoln Way and Baring Boulevard. Howard Drive is closed at Sparks Boulevard, with Fargo Way and O'Callaghan Drive serving as the detour route.
