The Eddy, a downtown Reno bar and entertainment venue, will shut its doors for good on Nov. 8.
Co-owners Kurt Stitser and Phil Buckheart announced the closure in a social media statement, as News 4 reported Oct. 29.
"It is with a heavy heart that we are forced to make this tough decision, but unfortunately The Eddy will be closing permanently on November 8, 2026," the statement said.
The owners blamed two forces. They called the closure "a direct result of the negative business impacts looming from RTC's Sierra Street Bridge project slated to run April 2027 thru Summer 2028, and the land Owner's unwillingness to renew our ground lease at reasonable terms."
The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County plans to tear down and replace the Sierra Street Bridge, which was built in 1937. The bridge has been identified as being in poor condition, according to an RTC press release. The RTC serves Reno, Sparks and unincorporated Washoe County.
According to the project schedule, the bridge will close to through traffic in March 2027 for active construction. Demolition of the northern section is set to begin in early July 2027, followed by the southern section in late July. Completion is anticipated in 2028, though the schedule is weather-dependent.
The RTC has said all businesses will remain accessible during construction and that signed detour routes will be provided while Sierra Street is closed at the bridge.
No public response from the RTC or from the property owner specifically addressing The Eddy's closure or the owners' characterization of the project's business impacts appears in available records.
Earlier relocation attempt
The closure caps months of uncertainty. As 2 News reported in July, Stitser had proposed leasing Believe Plaza from the City of Reno and relocating The Eddy there. He believed revenue would drop once bridge reconstruction began and said his lease at the current location was expiring.
That plan drew public pushback. Reno City Manager Jackie Bryant told Stitser that city code designates the plaza as a public space, creating legal obstacles to a commercial lease. Stitser withdrew his application.
At the time, the co-owners wrote, "Thank you, Reno. We're not going anywhere."
The Eddy's final night of operation is Nov. 8.
